Perfect sound. Perfect setting.

A Theater Like No Other

Nestled in the heart of downtown Orlando, Steinmetz Hall stands as a beacon of innovation, beauty and acoustic perfection inside the Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts. As it approaches its third anniversary in January 2025, this remarkable venue continues to inspire performers and audiences alike with its unmatched design and versatility.

From the moment you step inside, it’s clear that every inch of Steinmetz Hall was crafted with purpose. Cork floors, cherry millwork, and copper handrails come together to create not just a space, but a sensory experience—warm, refined, and acoustically alive. Designed to be both welcoming and exceptional, this theater invites visitors into a world where every detail supports sound in motion.

At the heart of Steinmetz Hall is its transformative design. As one of the only multiform theaters in the world, it can change its shape, seating, and sound environment in just minutes. A million-pound orchestral shell glides along tracks to shift the space from a 1,500-seat proscenium theater into a 1,700-seat concert hall. With over thirty distinct configurations already used since opening, the possibilities are nearly endless.

What sets Steinmetz Hall even further apart is its floating structure. The entire venue is built on a foundation of over 400 rubber-and-steel isolation pads—the same material used in suspension bridges—creating a physical and acoustic gap from the outside world. The result is an N1 sound rating, the lowest level of detectable sound, allowing performers to shine without amplification. It’s not just quiet—it’s pure.

Crafted with materials that serve both beauty and function, the hall’s copper accents were chosen intentionally for their symbolic meaning—the “people’s metal.” Automated acoustic curtains, rich wood finishes, and carefully chosen surfaces reflect sound with clarity, creating a space where music feels like it lives in the air itself.

Every seat is a good seat. Whether you’re sitting at the orchestra level or perched in the upper tiers, you’re enveloped in sound that feels intimate and expansive. Steinmetz Hall is more than a place to watch a performance—it’s a place to feel it, deeply and clearly, from any vantage point.

Beyond performances, Steinmetz Hall transforms into one of the most impressive event venues in Orlando. When the orchestra level converts to a flat floor, the space accommodates over 600 guests, making it the largest event space downtown. From elegant weddings and donor galas to film shoots and even a wrestling match, the venue’s flexibility makes it one of the most dynamic environments in the region.

The programming inside the hall matches its scale and ambition. In recent seasons, the Dr. Phillips Center launched its Residency Festival, bringing together the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra with legends like Beck, Diana Ross, and Harry Connick Jr. Upcoming highlights from the 24/25 season include the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, the London Symphony Orchestra, and a recital by Lang Lang, alongside a wide range of local and national talent.

Architectural Digest has already named it one of the 11 most beautiful theaters in the world, and it’s easy to see why. But what makes it truly special is its connection to Orlando’s vibrant artistic community. Local companies like the Orlando Ballet, Opera Orlando, and the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra perform here regularly. The University of Central Florida also showcases student work during its annual UCF Celebrates the Arts residency each April, reinforcing the hall’s role as a home for creative expression.

Steinmetz Hall was built for every kind of audience. From dance and opera to comedy, classical, theater, and film, the venue has already hosted over 460 performances since opening. Its spirit of versatility and inclusion invites everyone—from first-time guests to lifelong supporters—to be part of the experience.
